Artists Support
Due to the increased capacity for the Artists File Online to hold up to twelve images of artwork, Artists Space hopes to ease the transition to this all-digital format through workshops and one-on-one sessions in the Artists File. Two workshops were held in February at which the basics of digital imaging, Photoshop, and the new artist interface were overviewed. Here are the handouts from those workshops with some practical tips for uploading files:

>Download Digital Imaging Workshop handout as a Word document

>Download Digital Imaging Workshop handout as a PDF file

In light of an ongoing need for assistance, Artists Space will also offer one-on-one sessions in the Artists File for a limited time in the weeks following the launch. Please click here for more details on how to sign up for one of these help sessions.

Slide Scanning
Although the Artists File will still scan 2 of an artist's slides for a $7 charge, to post more than two images you must provide these images yourself. If you need slides scanned professionally, US Color Lab, a SoHo-based digital and photography lab, has generously offered a 25% discount to Artists File members from now through August 31st, 2006. The cost to get slides scanned and transferred to a CD with them is about $3 per slide, so with this discount this would be reduced to $2.25/slide. Make sure you mention Artists Space and the discount when you go to US Color Labs. www.uscolorlab.com 212-254-7100

I’m having problems uploading my images. Any suggestions?
Make sure your image file is a .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, or .bmp format. (.jpg recommended) The file size should be 72dpi, and at least 450 x 350 pixels (the database will automatically resize it for you). Large file sizes may take longer to upload. Also make sure your image files are RGB color not CMYK.

How do I change my contact information or update my portfolio page?
Once you have logged in to your account (www.afonline.artistsspace.org/login.php), you will be taken to your Artist Management page. The left hand menu of this page will allow you to access your information, and change your contact information, password, and manage your images and statement and resume text. Be sure to update your information with us at least once every 2 years, or your file will automatically be removed (you will receive a warning notice one month before this occurs.)

Can I email or give out a link to my Artists File portfolio page?
Yes – when you are on your artist portfolio page, just copy and paste the web address that shows in your browser, that is your unique address that will lead directly to your Artists File portfolio page!

What if I don’t have an email address?
This new website REQUIRES you to have an email address to be a member of the Artists File. This is also how curators and interested persons will contact you, and will be used as your username to log-in to your account. You can get a free email address at www.hotmail.com or www.yahoo.com.

What if I don’t have access to the internet?
If you do not have access to the internet, the Artists File staff can upload your images and information for you. Please download this PDF form, print and fill it out and mail it to Artists Space. We can still scan 2 slides for a 7$ charge, but due to high volume cannot scan more than 2 images for the online database.

What if I don’t have digital images of my artwork?
There are many ways to create images of your artwork as a digital file from using a digital camera, scanning slides, to creating a CD of your artwork from 35mm film. Please read the Artist Support information above for much more information. Many digital and photographic services are available that can scan your slides – US Color Lab in Manhattan will give Artists File members a 25% discount on scanning services through August 31, 2005. www.uscolorlab.com

Why can’t I find my name when I search for it in the Artists File Online?
